Second batch applications are now open for the BioStartup Lab and Biomaker Battle

BioStartup Lab, the only Life Sciences pre-acceleration program for startups in Brazil, opened applications for its second batch. It is an initiative of Biominas Brasil and Sebrae Minas, which counts on Natura’s support to assist entrepreneurs and researchers accelerate the process of turning their ideas and research studies into solutions that bring impacts to the market and society.

Registrations to take part in the selection stage can be done in the website until June 6th. In its first round, BioStartup Lab had 533 registrations from six countries and selected 21 teams from all over Brazil.

In a short program that takes approximately 12 weeks, carried out in the city of Belo Horizonte, the selected teams will perform activities of immersion in entrepreneurism. They’ll have support to create, develop and test the feasibility of a business model and elaborate a viable strategy to enter the market. Participants will have more than 200 hours to accelerate their projects, counting on more than 40 lecturers and guests and the assistance of more than 30 mentors.

The teams with the highest scores will have another opportunity, taking part in the Demoday, a huge event in which they present their solutions and strategies for potential investors and partners.

Biomaker Battle
Those who are interested in taking part in the second round of BioStartup Lab can try to secure their place by taking part in the Biomaker Battle. It’s the first Brazilian Maker Challenge for researchers and it’s also open for applications.
Biomaker Battle is a scientific challenge for research projects in life sciences with the objective of generating visibility for the high quality of scientific work developed in Brazilian universities and research centers. It creates opportunities for the practical application of such research studies in the development of solutions for problems in the fields of human health, environment, agribusiness and digital health. The event lasts one day and the participants are challenged to build and present a model that demonstrates the potential of their research study to solve, at least, on problem of the current society. “If you take a close look, you’ll notice that researchers are, by nature, gifted by the maker spirit and we are going to do is empower them, offering new meaning and strength to their scientific work”, emphasizes Rafael Silva, BioStartup Lab coordinator.

To participate, researchers have to enroll a research project on Life Sciences that has been completed or is in progress. Fifteen teams are going to be selected to take part in the event, which lasts one day and takes place in the co-working space of BioStartup Lab and in the Maker space of the Laboratório Aberto - SENAI. Registrations are open until June 6th in BioStartup Lab website.
